Bookworms(Reading Group)
Meet at the Cricket Club at 2.30pm on the third Friday of
every month.
Group Leader Carol Forse.
Some of the books we have read recently:
What do we do?
-
Read a different book every month on an assortment of
topics. Some fiction some factual.
-
Meet and discuss their content in a friendly
atmosphere.
-
Investigate the author's background and their previous
work. Talk about how this has influenced the book we have
read
-
Make a critical assessment of language and
style
-
Suggest other books we would like to read and
order them from the library.
-
Investigate other cultures and ways of life
through both fiction and non fiction.
-
Enjoy an annual visit to the 'Way with Words'
literary festival at Dartington.
What our members say?
-
It makes me read books more carefully and think about what
I am reading
-
My main joy is sharing one's impressions with others and
learning much as a result. Not only about the books themselves, but how
others react to them.
-
The books increase my understanding of myself as well
as others in the group.
-
I read books I would normally not have
read.
-
I like sharing my views with other members of the
group and listening to their views although they sometimes differ
from my own
-
Reading has broadened my experience and
knowledge of other cultures and ways of life
